Age 26 Policy Updates and Reminders

Sanford Health Plan recently reviewed the age 26 policy for all lines of business. Please note the following quick reminders below:

  • Individual & family plans (one and off exchange): dependents turning age 26 are no longer eligible for coverage at the end of the calendar year in which they turn age 26.
  • Small group plans: dependents turning age 26 are no longer eligible for coverage at the end of the month in which they turn age 26.
  • Large group plans: dependents turning age 26 are no longer eligible for coverage at the end of the month in which they turn age 26.
  • Self-funded group plans: dependents turning age 26 are no longer eligible for coverage at the end of the month in which they turn age 26, unless otherwise specified.

Letters will go out to the subscriber (policy holder) at least 60 days prior to the dependent’s termination date. Groups must terminate if using an 834 vendor, as well as with their COBRA vendor.

The online agent manual is being updated to reflect these changes. Please reach out to your account executive with questions.
