For Minnesota-, North Dakota-based Align Powered by Sanford Health Plan Members

In 2023 Sanford Health Plan contracted with Delta Dental, which has the largest network of dentists nationwide, to administer the dental benefit for its Align powered by Sanford Health Plan members. We understand this rollout has significantly inconvenienced our Minnesota- and North Dakota-based members, and we are taking the following steps to make things right for them:

• Delta Dental has reprocessed as in-network all out-of-network claims dating from January 1, 2023, through May 5, 2023. This work was completed May 22, 2023. Members with out-of-network claims have been sent an updated explanation-of-benefits from Delta Dental that states, “Claim recalculation was initiated by Delta Dental.”
• In addition, claim adjustment checks were mailed to affected members the week of May 19; they should have arrived the week of May 23.
• As of May 11, and for the remainder of 2023, all out-of-network providers will be processed as in-network for members in Minnesota and North Dakota.
• We’ve updated the functionality of the online provider directory to automatically show the correct MA network of in-network providers. This is to address the confusion caused when members had to make a selection from a dropdown menu before seeing the providers available in their network.

We have asked Delta Dental to make a concerted effort to expand their network in Minnesota and North Dakota, and we are evaluating their progress as we determine how best to serve our members in 2024.
