JULY 2023 UPDATES

We appreciate your ongoing partnership with Sanford Health Plan. Over the past year, we have been working to transition our group Clients to WEX Health for the administration of COBRA services. Throughout this process, Sanford Health Plan has been actively involved in facilitating the connection between you, our valued client, and WEX Health. We feel this transition period has been successful, and we have made some enhancements to the process to further support you.

To gain a comprehensive understanding of your future responsibilities, we kindly request that you carefully read the following communication in its entirety.

Current Group Clients - Renewing with Sanford Health Plan:
Groups can expect to start receiving renewal communications directly from WEX Health approximately 90 days prior to their renewal date. It is important to engage with WEX Health as soon as possible, as this can delay current COBRA members’ renewal elections. These emails will have detailed information on how to complete the renewal design guide and complete renewal set up. If you’ve assigned LEAP access to your agent, they will be able to assist you with this process. Groups are encouraged to reach out to WEX Health directly with any questions.

Note: WEX Health will ask for group plan numbers to map members to their correct plan. These group plan numbers will be available upon request post effective date. The client can proceed entering renewal information without these numbers and enter them once available.

Employee Termination
Upon employee termination the group must send a termination request to Sanford Health Plan to terminate their health coverage AND log into the LEAP portal to terminate the employee with WEX Health. If you do not complete the termination in the LEAP portal, COBRA notices will not be sent out to the employee.

Group Client Termination
If an employer terminates coverage with Sanford Health Plan, Sanford Health Plan will no longer cover the administrative fees for COBRA services with WEX Health. Employers must contact WEX Health to terminate their COBRA services or services will be transferred to a direct contract between the group and WEX Health.

State Continuation
WEX Health does not automatically administer state continuation laws. If you are an employer with 20 or more employees please be aware of these laws and regulations within your state. WEX Health administers COBRA based on federal guidelines of your state continuation law if greater than the federal guideline please contact WEX Health to extend per state guidelines.
